Be careful with garage doors

Postby wendym » Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:20 pm

Ollie had an awful accident yesterday afternoon, he got squashed under the automatic garage door. Thankfully he is ok, he got away with just some bruising it seems. I think he was too small to trigger the sensor that opens the door back up.

I took him to the emergency vet and he's been back to his regular vet for a thorough check over this morning, and seems to be ok. He's had pain relief and anti inflammatary's and he manged to find his appetite for the chicken and rice mum had cooked him. It was a bit of a worrying night (everytime I closed my eyes all I could see was him stuck under the door) and he was up and down and a bit spacey - I didn't really know what to do to help the poor boy. Hopefully we will all sleep a bit better tonight.

Just wanted to post this to let everyone be aware of the doors, it's not something I had really given much thought - I was more concerned about him avoiding the car coming in.

Wow thats terrible, actually another thing to watch out for is leads and being left tied up. Years and years ago my friends dog got strangled to death when the reversed there car over its lead... i must admit this was quite a while ago but something recently reminded me of that incident... my brothers jack russell jumped into the front of the car with its lead still on... he shut the door and the lead was still outside of the car... it somehow went around the wheel as he reversed and she got pulled quickly staight to the door... the only thing which saved her being, well... was the fact he went back really slowly .... he only went back maybe a foot before seeing her fly towards the door.... obvously he jumped out and opened the door where it went flying out....

if you do tie your dog up in the backyard consider attaching it to an aerial string with a retractable lead... its a brillant system and lets your dog run around without any tangling or accidently accidents like this
